Michael Drury Reynolds is the Chairman of the Board, Founder, and Chief Executive Officer of Bond Street Investment Trust, a private REIT headquartered in Charleston, South Carolina. Bond Street REIT holds one of the largest private portfolios of convenience retail shopping centers across the Southeast, with holdings extending across select Midwest and Southwest markets, a portfolio that has successfully challenged the dogmatic perception that all retail has been left for dead. Since establishing Bond Street Advisors in 2014, Mr. Reynolds has defined the firm’s thesis around Class A convenience retail and led its transformation from a legacy portfolio held in single-purpose entity format into an institutional-grade, perpetual-life private NAV REIT, supported by the capital structure, governance framework, and operating platform required to sustain portfolio growth and accredited investor participation.
Mr. Reynolds is recognized within the sector for a disciplined investment philosophy, an instinctive command of the asset class, and the conviction to act decisively when opportunities emerge. That perspective informs the firm’s approach to acquisitions, capital formation, income generation, and long-term value creation. He brings more than four decades of multi-disciplinary experience in entitlement, acquisition, development, and finance across the real estate sector. Since acquiring his first single family home in Berkeley in 1984 while attending U.C. Berkeley, Mr. Reynolds has navigated six serious economic downturns and one pandemic with an unblemished profitable track record across 150 distinct projects. From 1995 to 2013, Mr. Reynolds served as Managing Partner of The Embarcadero Pacific Company, a privately owned, Bay Area-based urban infill development and real estate investment firm. He pioneered the “soft-loft” brand of urban housing in the Bay Area, cultivating a reputation for excellence in design and aesthetics. Notable projects include the first live/work loft project in the Bay Area, The Fourth Street Lofts; the National Historic Monument and award-winning 59-unit Embarcadero Lofts in San Francisco; the nationally acclaimed, two-time award-winning 104-unit Aqua Via building in Jack London Square; the historic conversion of the Allied Paper Company Building; and The Bond, a 102-unit project, both located in Jack London Square, Oakland, California.
Mr. Reynolds was born in Oakland, California, and raised in Los Altos, California. He attended Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose (1981) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of California, Berkeley (1985). He and his wife, Brooke, and their two children share time between Charleston and Bluffton, South Carolina, and Rome, Italy. Prior to living in Charleston, Mr. Reynolds resided in Belvedere, California, for 25 years, where he raised his two older children.
